Metamyelocytes
Metamyelocytes are intermediate-stage neutrophil precursors that should not be present in the peripheral blood of healthy adults. The normal reference range is zero. Their appearance signals a significant left shift, meaning the bone marrow is releasing immature cells into circulation. This can occur with severe infection, marked inflammation, marrow stress, or hematologic disease.
